SCSI Products

SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface. It allows a host computer to interface with a variety of peripheral devices, such as disk drives, CD-ROM drives and tape drives. SCSI-1, SCSI-2, Fast SCSI, SCSI-3, Wide SCSI and Ultra SCSI are different versions of the SCSI protocol standard. Fast SCSI allows 10MHz instead of 5 MHz timing on the bus. Wide SCSI uses an extra cable or a 68-pin P cable to send data 16 or 32 bits wide. Ultra SCSI or Fast 20 allows up to 20 MHz signals on the bus.
A SCSI Bus is a transmission line. To prevent reflections from the ends of the bus, you need a device which makes the transmission line appear to have infinite length. This is done by attaching resistors to the ends of the bus which have the same resistance as the characteristic impedance of the transmission line. These are called SCSI Terminators. Since SCSI line drivers are open-collector ( which can only pull a signal tow) , a pull-up resistor is needed to pull the signal high when it s not asserted. There are five basic types of SCSI termination: Passive, Active, Active-Negation, FPT and LVD ( including LVD/ SE).
Single Ended Terminators use open collector drivers to drive the SCSI bus. Difference signal is used to detect connection of wrong-type devices and prevent damage.
Passive Terminators use a group of resistors on the physical ends of a single-ended SCSI bus that dampens reflected signals from the dneds of the bus. Each terminated signal is connected by 220 ohm to + 5 volt ( TERMPWR) 330 ohm to ground 18 signals.
Active Terminators is a set of 110 ohm resistors from each signal to a 2.85 volt regulated voltage source.
Active Negation uses high and low voltages to drive the bus signal for single-ended termination. This results in faster switching, which is necessary for Fast SCSI and Ultra SCSI speeds.
Differential SCSI drives two signal lines from the host and peripheral devices. The signal is the voltage difference between the two lines. Differential drive has greater noise immunity than single-ended, especially when used with twisted pair cable, which converts noise to common mode voltage that is more easily rejected.
Low Voltage Differential ( LVD) or Ultra2 SCSI, available in 68-pin and 80-pin configurations, is faster and more reliable than previous SCSI standards. Complex applications require a more advanced interface to handle increasing data transfer needs. The Ultra2 SCSI does this by increasing bus bandwidths, allowing greater configuration flexibility, backward compatibility and faster transfer rates.
Termination must be present at two and only two positions on the SCSI bus at the beginning and at the end. There can be no more and no less than two terminators on a bus. Termination placement must be within 4 inches ( . 1 meter) of the ends of the SCSI bus.
The placement of the SCSI Adapter Card can be anywhere on the SCSI bus, because it s just another device. However, if you place it somewhere in the middle of the SCSI bus, you must disable termination on the adapter card. A SCSI device can only have termination if it s at the end of the bus.

Ultra ATA Cables

The Ultra ATA/UDMA is an advanced generation of the EIDE interface that is capable of transferring at rates up to 33 MB/s when the proper components such as cables, hard drives and interconnects are used. The Ultra ATA/UDMA-2 is capable of supporting up to 66 MB/s when the proper cables, hard drives, interconnects and enabled motherboards are used.

What are the design Interconnect changes for Ultra ATA over IDE/EIDE?

From an interconnect perspective the cable used for Ultra ATA cables is 80 solid core conductors @ 30 AWG versus 40 stranded core conductors of 28 AWG for IDE/EIDE cable. The connectors use an internal ground bus bar that joins the 7 IDE grounds. The combination of 40 signal and 40 ground lines enable the significantly reduced noise levels which allow for the higher speeds. The connectors are also color coded to improve ease of installation for users. There are 3 connectors, Blue (System Board Connector) which must be plugged into the motherboard, Black (Primary) which must be plugged into the drive if there is only one drive and Gray (Secondary) which would be either unused (no second drive) or plugged into a second drive.

Ultra ATA Products

Our cables are built with the finest materials available and are 100 % electrically tested. The cables feature pull tabs on the 2 end connectors to ease deassertion of the connector should that be necessary. The cables are all built to be in compliance with the SFF-8049 standard and currently OCP offers 3 standard cables but will accept orders for custom lengths. The standard states that cables should not exceed 18" but 24" cables are common. We will manufacture custom length cables at the request of the customer.

CISCO EQUIVALENT CABLES

CISCO equivalent cables are designed and manufactured to provide optimal fit and function.
We offer the widest and most aggressively priced selection of "off the shelf" CISCO compatible cables in the industry. We welcome your special length, wiring schematic or packaging requirement.

FIBRE CHANNEL COPPER CABLES

We, as a high technology cable compny, have developed a broad expertise in making and marketing Fibre Channel cable assemblies.
Fibre-Channel is a new type of serial protocol being introduced for mass storage interconnects. Fibre Channel is a serial interface that operates at 100 MBps offering a performance advantage over currently available SCSI based subsystems.
Fiber Channel Copper Cables vary in length from 1-meter to 24.5 meters, unequalized.
Equalization circuitry is used to extend the usable length of copper cables to 30 meters and over. The equalizer network corrects for the signal distortion caused by the difference in amplitude loss and propagation delay time in the longer cable assemblies.
In subsystems designed with a dual port configuration it is necessary to "loop back" the Fibre-Channel signal when one port is unused in order to maintain a full arbitrated loop.
The key connectors for copper fibre channel assemblies are: HSSDC and DB9.

E-Mail or call us today and choose from any of the following types:
DB-9M to DB-9M, DB-9M to HSSDC, HSSDC to HSSDC. Both standard and custom lengths are available.
