SCSI Terminators What is a Passive Terminator?
Passive Terminators and Passive Termination represent the oldest method of
terminating the SCSI bus. It is usually associated with SCSI1. A passive terminator is placed on the bus to minimize signal reflections at the end of the cable. The terminator is called passive since it does'nt do any active work to regulate power for termination. It simply provides impedance
close to the impedance of the cable and it relies on the interface card to provide steady power.
What is an Active Terminator? Active Termination is a more advanced form of terminating SCSI
cables. It is usually associated with SCSI2 and SCSI3. Active Terminators control the impedance at the end of the SCSI bus by using a voltage regulator, not just the power supplied by the interface card.
