  ORGANIZATIONS, CODES, AND STANDARDS  OSHA

The Occupational Safety and Health Act
A federal law and therefore requires compliance by all to whom it is applicable.

The Williams-Steiger Act, passed by the House and Senate in 1970, formed the basis for the present law. The law is designed to protect employees at their workplace and covers many types of possible job hazards, including those in which we are most interested: electrical safety. OSHA is not an approval or testing agency.

The OSHA adopted many portions of the 1971 National Electrical Code, either directly or by inference, and for the first time gave those portions legal status.
